ERNEST WARD PARKER 

  Ernest Ward Parker, 73, widely known and highly esteemed business man of 
Smithfield and engaged in the insurance business here for the past nearly 
half a century, died Friday afternoon at Buxton Hospital, Newport News.

  Mr. Parker is survived by three sisters, Mrs. J.H. Cobb, of Blacksburg; 
Mrs. A.P. Johnson, of Norfolk and Mrs. J.L. Street, of Newport News, and 
several nieces and nephews.

  Funeral services were conducted at Old Saint Luke's Episcopal Church on 
the Smithfield Highway Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock by the Rev. William 
Brayshaw.  Burial was in St. Luke's Cemetery.

  Active pallbearers were R.B. Chapman, V.W. Joyner, Andrew Cofer, E. 
Adelstein, Jas. P. Cox, James R. Reid, Frank B. Simpson, Sr. and C.S Betts.

  Mr. Parker was a graduate of Randolph-Macon College and was a member of 
the Windsor Masonic Lodge and of Christ Episcopal Church at Smithfield.
